THE FULL STORY
Binge drinking within the greek life community has always been a problem. Rates of alcoholism among this community are higher than the average student. We know you're going to drink but when you do we want you to be as safe as possible. With your help we can lower these rates and have fun while doing it.
FAST FACTS
University of Maryland has a binge drinking rate of approximately 37%. While this number is lower than it was a few years ago, 45% in 2012, it’s still relatively high given the circumstances.
However, his would mean that 37% of the student population, 38,140 students as of 2015 when this percentage was reported, equates to 14,111 students that participate in binge drinking regularly and according to research, greek life students make up a large portion of this number.

A recent report by drugabuse.gov reported that 45% of the Greek life students examined participated in binge drinking while only 30.1% of non-Greek life students participated in binge drinking.

HOW TO STAY SAFE WHILE DRINKING
THREE SIMPLE RHYMES
1. One more cup could mess you up

You may be drunker than you think.
Wait 30 minutes at least in between drinks.
Assess how you feel.

2. Keep a steady pace; it's not a race
The faster you drink the faster you'll get drunk.
Pace yourself.

3. Think before you drink
Do you have any responsibilities tomorrow?
Are you in a safe environment?
Do your friends know where you are?

WHAT COULD HAPPEN
CONSEQUENCES OF BINGE DRINKING
56% of fraternity members and 44% of sorority members reported having missed class since the beginning of the school year due to alcohol.

Fraternities and sororities reported being more than twice as likely to have unprotected sex than their non-Greek life counterparts.

Fraternity members were three times as likely to be hit, pushed, or assaulted by someone under the influence of alcohol than non-members while sorority members were twice as likely
​
Greek membership has been associated with drunk driving and owning a fake ID.
Fraternity and sorority members are more likely to black out and not remember what they did while drinking than their non-Greek life counterparts
